Going Keto can become kind of stressful when you are eating out, that is why I have put together this Keto Mcdonalds Options list for you. To be honest, eating at a regular restaurant is pretty simple, but its gets hard when you are eating in the land of hamburgers and fries.

When you are on the road, sometimes the only option to eat is a fast food food restaurant like Mcdonalds. But, Mcdonalds may not seem like a quality option for someone following a low carb diet like the Keto diet. But, to my surprise, there are plenty of Keto Mcdonalds Options at the golden arches.

Below I will list 15 Keto options you can have at Mcdonalds to not just throw out your weight loss goals out the window. Whether you are just in a hurry or on a road trip with the family, you can 100 percent stay on track while eating at a Mcdonalds fast food restaurant.

General Guidlines

There are some No-Go’s and strict rules when eating at a Mcdonalds while following a Keto diet. The rules I list below are certain things you want to stick with no matter what Keto meal you decide to get.

  • Get rid of the bun! A burger bun has 28g of carbs.
  • That also means skip the McMuffin and/or biscuit.
  • Breaded things like the McChicken or nuggets are also high in carbs.
  • Avoid the ketchup, you won’t believe the amount of sugar it has.
  • A salad seems safe, but stay away from most salad dressings.
  • Speaking of salads, skip the croutons. Thats extra carbs we don’t need.
  • To order the milk shakes or fries, I know its hard, but don’t do it!

Keto Mcdonalds Breakfast Options

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so I will start with some Keto Mcdonalds breakfast options. You will be surprised at the amount of breakfast keto options Mcdonalds offers. Check out these fulfilling low carb Mcdonalds options below.

  • Triple Breakfast Stack McGriddle – Skip the McGriddle for 4g net carbs, 26g of fat, and 15 grams of protein
  • Sausage, Egg and Cheese McMuffin – No McMuffin and you are left with a breakfast option that has 2 net carbs with the cheese and 1 without. Fat: 23g. Protein: 12g
  • The Big Breakfast – Not Adding the hash browns or biscuit gets you 4g net carbs, 34.5g of fat, and 28g of protein.
  • Egg McMuffin – No McMuffin and you have a perfect Keto option with  3g of net carbs, 11g of fat, and 12g of protein

You can always add extra sausage, egg, or cheese to these sandwiches. Also, just because these Keto breakfast sandwiches come with out the bread, they still hold up, will fill you up, and taste delicious.

Keto Breakfast Drink Options

Im sure you will want to add a drink to your Keto Mcdonalds breakfast meal, but don’t be fooled with these “sugar free options”.

Depending on your style of Keto, you can or can not have diet soda. I do add diet soda’s to my Keto diet, But! I don’t drink diet sodas everyday, I don’t eat at Mcdonalds everyday either, I treat as a treat, so having a diet soda while at Mcdonalds is a 1 or 2 times a month type of thing.

If you are super strict Keto then you will want to stay away from the diet sodas because of the sugar alcohols. Also be careful with the sugar free iced coffees. While they are sugar free, they contain milk and cream which can add up to 10 gras of grams to your coffee.

Here is some info on the most popular breakfast drink options and some of the carb counts may surprise you.

  • Orange Juice has 26g of carbs for 8 oz.
  • Milk has 12g of carbs for 8 oz.
  • Coke has 60g of carbs in a small

Keto Mcdonalds Lunch Options

Remember the guidelines above when ordering your Keto lunch or dinner Mcdonalds meals. Stay away from the buns. A Keto hack is to ask for extra romaine lettuce to make a hamburger rap.

Another hack I do, is I bring Keto buns when I know we will be going to Mcdonalds. Maybe you wont fill comfortable bringing your own bread into a fast food restaurant, but you could always eat in the car 🤷‍♂️.

Keto Mcdonalds Beef Options

Big Mac – Skip the bun to have a Keto option with 5g net carbs, 25g of fat, and 18g of protein. I would skip the big mac sauce also, unless you are feeling spicy and have the macros to spare, the sauce will add an extra 2 carbs.

Quarter Pounder with Cheese – Minus the bun and you have a hamburger with 3g net carbs, 25g of fat, and 25g of protein. Don’t forget to say “no ketchup”.

Double Cheeseburger – No bun and ketchup to make a Keto option that has 3g net carbs, 20g of fat, and 20g of protein.

Bacon McDouble – forgo the bun and ketchup for 4g net carbs, 21g of fat, and 23g of protein.

Keto Mcdonalds Chicken Options

Im not going to lie to you guys, I love the McChicken and a 9 piece chicken nugget meal, but neither are keto. If you want chicken, but want to stay keto, then here are a couple of options for you.

It is important to remember that chicken does not have as much fat as beef so you may want to add some extra fat for a better Keto option. To add some extra fat you can add bacon or some of the Keto friendly sauces listed below.

Pico Guacamole with Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich – Skipping the bun with this chicken sandwich gives you a Keto meal with 6g net carbs, 19g of fat, and 29g of protein.

Mushroom & Swiss Grilled Chicken – No bun, no sauce, and no onions leaves you with 2g net carbs, 9g of fat, and 33g protein.

Salads are a great side option instead of wedges or the famous Mcdonalds fries, but be careful, because those salad dressings can add a lot of carbs. here are a few salad options to stay low carb while at Mcdonalds.

Side salad – 2g net carbs, 0g of fat, and 1g of protein. You can add some fat and flavor with one of the sauces from the sauce list below.

Bacon Ranch Grilled Chicken Salad – skip the ranch dressing, but add ranch dipping sauce for 6.5g net carbs, 13g of fat, 42g of protein.

Keto Mcdonalds Sauce Options

Here are some of the sauces offered at Mcdonalds that you can eat and still stay Keto.

  • Spicy Buffalo Sauce – 1g net carbs, 3g of fat, 0g of protein.
  • Creamy Ranch Sauce – 1.5g net carbs, 12g of fat, 0g of protein.
  • Signature Sauce – 3g net carbs, 9g of fat, 0g of protein. 

Stay away from the honey mustard, BBQ, and sweet and sour sauce as they can have up to 11 grams of carbs!

In Conclusion

It is very possible and actually easy to stay Keto while eating at a fast food restaurant like Mcdonalds if you follow my “Keto Mcdonalds Options”.

  • Stay away from hamburger buns, McMuffins, and biscuits
  • Always Skip the ketchup
  • For breakfast, stick to the bacon, sausage, eggs, and cheese options
  • Stay away from regular soda, orange juice, and milk drinks
  • Diet Soda is ok every once in a while
  • Honey mustard, BBQ, and sweet and sour sauce are a no go
